It is Science Week! Our theme is ‘Connections’ this year. We are all connected in different ways and there are so many patterns in our every day lives. It was extra fun today as lots of us dressed up in red for Red Nose Day to raise money for Comic Relief!
We had a lot of fun with our investigations! We looked at our finger prints by placing our fingers first on top of pencil lead and then placing the same finger on the sticky side of sellotape. We then stuck the sellotape on a sheet of paper and we could see our fingerprints! We loved looking at our individual prints and spoke about how police officers and investigators use similar techniques in their fields of work to solve a crime! We tried the same with cocoa powder but it was less effective – we think it was due to it being a bit lumpy!
We also loved using coat hangers and string to develop our understanding of how sound can travel! We tied string to the hangers, wrapped the string around our fingers and put our fingers in our ears. We then gently bumped the hanger into different objects. The sound was so loud! We discussed how sounds are made by vibrating objects!
