This week in Macaws we have started division. This is the inverse (or the opposite) of multiplication.
We have been dividing by sharing objects into equal groups. In class we have drawn circles to represent groups, and dots to represent the number we are dividing. Can you practice by answering these questions? Think about how many groups you need to draw and then how many dots. There must be an equal amount in each group.
1. There are 30 children in Macaws class. Can you share them into 6 equal groups?
2. There are 20 birds. There are 5 trees. How many birds are in each tree?
3. Miss Duncan has 15 counters. Can you share them equally into 5 groups?
4. There are 12 jellyfish. Can you split them into 3 equal groups?
5. There are 14 slices of pizza. There are 7 children. How many slices does each child get?
Can you think of a division word problem? We’ll do more next week!
