We have been looking at symmetry in nature. We made butterflies for our classroom window using black card and colourful tissue paper. As we decorated our butterflies, we made sure that both sides were the same. When both sides are the same, they are symmetrical. We used our fine motor skills to hold the brushes and glue the tissue paper on to our butterflies. You could practise your fine motor skills at home by using pencils, pens, tweezers, scissors and brushes – have a go and see what you can make. We also made butterfly prints to hang from the ceiling. It was like magic to see one butterfly wing turn into two symmetrical wings! Have a look for more creatures or patterns in nature that our symmetrical. Maybe you could draw a picture or take a photograph to bring into Nursery and share with your friends.
