During Science Week, we had the exciting opportunity to welcome a scientist from the Crick Institute and take part in a workshop all about bones. We learnt that the longest bone in the body is the femur and that your spine is made up of many small bones called vertebrae. We also became scientists ourselves by forming a hypothesis: does having a longer femur make you better at long jump? To investigate, we conducted an experiment to test this idea, measuring femur lengths and jump distances. Another highlight was our mystery bag activity. Each bag contained an object related to bones, such as an X-ray, a horse bone, and even a shovel – representing the tools of a palaeontologist – and used our scientific thinking to figure out what was inside.
