Macaws have had a fantastic week to finish off their Science learning in our Green Fingered Growers topic. We have been busy taking care of our plants, making observations and forming theories on how to best look after plants. We have established that sunlight, water and soil are essential for plants to grow healthy but we have also learnt that talking to a plant may make it grow faster as well. We observed that cress grew in darkness if it had water, however did not grow in sunlight without water. This has led many Macaws to theorise that water is more essential than sun.
The topic has been incredibly fun and this week we celebrated all our wonderful enquiry with a Plant Tea Party and a trip to Hampstead Heath. Our tea party was a HUGE surprise as you can see below.
Once over our initial excitement, we settled down to enjoy a tea party full of food and drinks that are made from plants. We tasted the food then had to work out what fruits or vegetables were needed to create it. We then played, ‘What fruit am I?’ and had to work out what fruit we were by asking relevant questions. It was a lot of fun and a great treat to end the topic on.
Golly gosh, Macaws! Haven’t you had the most exciting week? I’m so impressed with your plant growth theories, and your feast looks delicious! I know it must have been well deserved!
