Last week, Kingfishers went on a brilliant trip to the London Docklands Museum. There, we learned all about the role the docks played in the development of London and a bit about the lives of the people who lived and worked in the area. It was fascinating to see such a range of tools and equipment that they would have used to load and unload cargo, as well as learn more about the cargo itself.

We also had a workshop that took place on the foreshore of the River Thames itself. There, we learned about how to measure the temperature and ph of the water to see how polluted it was. We also looked for historical artefacts that had been washed up by the river. This included clay pipes dating back to the 1700s, a lemonade bottle from Victorian times and various bits of bone and rock that could have been there a very long time.

Thank you to the Museum of London Docklands for an excellent day exploring the Geography and History of our area.
