We have been learning about Pocahontas and the Powhatan people. Today we discussed some of the causes of conflict between the colonists and the Powhatan people. We know that the English stole the Powhatan people’s food, water, land and many did not want to work for their food.
Native Americans had food and farming advice that could help the English, so colonists sometimes tried to trade goods with the Powhatan.
In our Kagan tables we decided items from the English which would have been useful for the Powhatan people. These included weapons, metal tools, wool and beads. We sorted objects into ‘useful’ and ‘not useful.’
We are really enjoying this history topic!
