In Reception we’ve been learning all about the Farm and what animals we might find there. We’ve learned that baby ducks are called ducklings and we were lucky enough to have some at school! We learned all about the life cycle of a duck and how it hatches from  an  egg.

We watched the eggs in an incubator and we learned that this keeps them warm just like their mum would in her nest.

We watched the ducklings hatch and we could take them out to put into their cage once they were dry and fluffy.

We learned how to care for them and what they need.

We made posters telling others what the ducklings need and how to care for them. We learned that they need food, water, warmth and a place to live.

We watched our new friends grow.

We even took them swimming! We gave them a spot to sit inside of the water in case they got tired.

We sent them safely back to the farm. We’ll miss you ducklings!!
