In our rivers workshop, we started by creating our own river, choosing an adjective and a movement to bring it to life, such as a “twisting” river that “swirled” or a “gentle” river that “meandered.” We then turned our focus to the River Thames, learning about its history and significance through an interactive TV show-style activity. We took a virtual cruise down the Thames, with some of us acting as fishermen casting lines, others portraying factories along the riverbanks, and a few enjoying sunny days in Southend, where the Thames meets the sea with ice creams in hand. Finally, we held a thoughtful debate about how we should use and care for our city’s river. Exploring both sides of the argument, we considered how to balance enjoyment, industry, and conservation.
