We have had a fantastic time during Science Week! We have discussed the importance science and why we learn about it at school. It helps build curiosity for our future lives and helps us to problem solve!
We have also carried out some experiments. The first experiment reminded us that Science is in our cooking!
It involved us mixing baking soda and vinegar in a plastic bottle and placing a balloon on top! The baking soda and vinegar produced a gas which filled the balloon!
Have a read of some of our comments and predictions:
Aniela- “The baking powder in the bottle with the vinegar will blow up the balloon!”
Christian- “I think the balloon might float up if it gets too big!”
Dulal- “The baking soda and vinegar in the bottle will make a gas balloon.”
“The balloon feels soft and squishy. It feels calming.”
“I can hear fizzing, like coke. I think it is blowing up and filling with air.”
When asked how we can make the balloon bigger, Aishi said, “Put more vinegar and baking powder in there!”
“I can smell the vinegar!”
Here are some photos of our experiment!
Our second experiment (which we carried out all dressed up as our favourite scientists) involved us creating our very own lava lamps!
Polarity prevented the oil and water from mixing together. When we added food colouring and the Alka-Seltzer, we watched bubbles pop and escape into the air, allowing the dense water to sink back to the bottom again.
Have a look at some of our photos. We loved this experiment- look at our excited faces (Mrs Dawson included)!
Can you ask us who we dressed up as for Science Week?!
These lava lamps look so cool! The Pufflings are very inspired!
