STEAM Week: Day 2 – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Plastic
Today we learnt about where plastic ends up in landfill if we don’t recycle or reuse it, we learnt how long it takes different materials to decompose – natural vs. synthetic and we made a ‘changemaker pledge’ with ideas on how we can reduce, reuse and recycle plastic and other materials at home.
Here are a couple things we found especially interesting:
- So many of our clothes are synthetic (not natural and take 50+ years to decompose) – maybe we can try and reuse clothes by buying from and giving to second-hand shops to try and reduce the amount of waste in landfills?
- A plastic bag takes from 500 years – forever to decompose…. maybe the easiest thing we can do is never use plastic bags!
