Music
Music is a language of its own — one that crosses cultures, connects communities and speaks directly to the heart. At Rosary, we are passionate about giving every child the opportunity to experience the joy of making music, whatever their background or prior experience. Our Music curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and alive.
From EYFS to Year 6, children engage with music through performing, composing, listening and appraising. In the early years, music is woven into daily life through songs, rhymes, rhythm games and movement. As children progress, they develop their understanding of the interrelated dimensions of music — pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture and structure — and begin to apply these in increasingly sophisticated ways.
All children in Year 4 take part in our Wider Opportunities programme, which offers whole-class instrumental tuition. Children have the chance to learn an instrument together, building skills, teamwork and musical confidence in equal measure. Additional instrumental lessons are also available to pupils who wish to pursue individual tuition on a range of instruments.
At Rosary, music reaches beyond the classroom. Our school choir performs at a range of events throughout the year, and children have the opportunity to take part in music concerts at Christmas, Easter and the end of the summer term — sharing their musical achievements with parents and the wider school community. We are proud of the musical culture our school community has built together, and we cherish every opportunity to perform, listen and celebrate.
